On Sunday morning Sixmilebridge took on Doora Barefield at home in the second round of the U14 shield competition under the captaincy of Oran Carey. The home side played with the wind in the first half which allowed for some nice scores from Conor Gilligan, Gary O’ Callaghan and Conor Murphy who got two points from frees and one from a sixty five. The Barefield goalie, Michael Nash, was impressive with some very good saves for his side but despite his efforts Dylan Dunne found the back of the net with 24 minutes on the clock. The Bridge proved to be the stronger side in the first half and the score going in at half time was 1-6 to 2 points in favour of the home side.

The second half started with injury for the Sixmilebridge goalie Cian Maxwell, who had made some great saves up to this point before being replaced by Conor Gilligan. This half proved a more exciting affair with Barefield scoring 3 goals, Brian Corry scoring the first of these 11 minutes in. Dylan Dunne responded with another goal for the Bridge but Daragh McMahon scored the next goal for Barefield shortly after. Dara Fitzgerald and Callum Lynch were introduced for the bridge with the former scoring a point. With 5 minutes to go, Ali Ghazi scored the third goal for Barefield but the Bridge maintained their lead until the end and the full time score was Sixmilebridge 2- 11 and Doora Barefield 3-6.
