Friday evening saw our Minors in action for the second time this year after overcoming Bodyke/ O Callaghan Mills in their opening fixture. The opposition on the night was near neighbours Wolfe Tones, with the field in Shannon wet and slippy following the day’s rain. The Bridge played the opening half against the wind; and the first score of the game fell to Wolfe Tones from a free. The Bridge quickly settled into the game and registered the next four scores, a pointed free from Tiernan Agnew, two points from play Jack Corry and a further point from a sixty five converted by Lorcan Fitzpatrick. For the remainder of the half the Bridge outscored Wolfe Tones by 1-04 to 0-03. Tiernan Agnew getting the decisive goal, while both Corry and Fitzpatrick added to their tally. In the course of this half both teams were reduced to 14 men following separate incidents and at half time the Bridge went in 1-08 to 0-04 ahead.

The Bridge enjoyed the better of matters in the second half, and similar to the first half Wolfe Tones were straight off the mark with a point which was followed by a Corry free within two minutes of the restart. The Bridge then went on to add a further 1-4 between the fifth and eleventh minute which was followed by a period in of time in which both defences dominated. Wolfe Tones managed to score a further 1-01 before the Bridge added 0-04 points between the 28 and 32 minute leaving the full time score 2-17 to 1-06 in favour of the Bridge with both Jordan Downes and James Holloway firing over impressive points from play in the closing stages.

For the Bridge the lads will be happy to have secured the points and another strong performance will be required on Monday 21st August at 7pm in O Garney Park when they take on Inagh Kilnamona.  Please come along and support the lads!!
