When people talk of hurling folklore it usually starts with The Legend of Cú Chulainn right up to the great Clare win of 1995 or the Kilkenny greats of the modern era. However down Garney side the question asked is "Where were you the day Hayes met Joe Cooney with a shoulder in Thurles".

To rewind back for the young folk Joe Cooney was one of the greatest sticks men of his era and a multi celtic cross winner with Galway. He won All Ireland Club titles in 93 & 94 with Sarsfields. Following the Bridge winning the Munster club title in 1995 they qualified to meet Sarsfields in the All Ireland Semi Final in February 1996. During the second half of the game a young Pat Hayes met Joe with a powerful shoulder that tested the foundations of the old stand in Thurles while also been reported on the richter scale in Rosmanagher. The Bridge won and went on to win the All Ireland that year and this week to mark the 21st Anniversary of the ocassion Pat met up with the Galway legend to check on he was after the shoulder as rumor has it tis only coming right now.

We will let Hayeso fill you in on the full story again -
