Barry Quinn Memorial Under 10 Hurling Tournament
O'Garney Park next Saturday morning (7th October) will be the venue for our annual Under 10 Hurling Tournament.
The objective of the tournament is for the boys to play against teams
from outside their county and to have fun, while honouring the memory of our friend and former playing colleague Barry Quinn.
The holders, Newtownshandrum, are back to defend their title but will have their work cut out for them as we're also hosting teams from Ballyea and St Pauls Mungret. Our own Under 10s, fresh from their recent high-altitude training camp in Moneygall, have been building steadily towards this weekend and we're expecting some big performances from our stars of the future.
Some information about the tournament:
Teams are: Sixmilebridge (x2), Ballyea (x2), Mungret (x1) and Newtownshandrum (x1)
There will be 2 Groups of 3 teams each
Games will be 12 minutes per half
Group winners will play the runners-up of the other group in Semi-Finals
Losing Semi-Finalists will play a 3rd\4th place playoff
Teams that don't make the Semi's will also play each other to ensure the boys get as much game time as possible
First games throw in at 10:30am and we expect to be finished around 1:30pm
We'll break for refreshments after the group games are complete (around 12pm)
There will be approx 90 players plus coaches and supporters at this tournament so this is a pretty big undertaking. Can parents bring sandwiches\baked goods etc and any help on the catering side will be greatly appreciated (rumours that we will be hosting a "Best Hang Sangwidge" competition remain unconfirmed at this time....).
