Atlantic Aviation 2-17 Zimmer 2-11

Atlantic Aviation won their first Clare Inter-Firm hurling championship after defeating defending champions Zimmer in an entertaining match at UL at Thursday night.

Zimmer went in front inside the first minutes with a good point from Dermot Gannon. Sean Meaney made it a level game with a point for Atlantic on 4 minutes. Alan Mulready put Atlantic in front with a good point on the run after 5 minutes. Two points from 65's by Darragh Carey had Atlantic 3 points clear after 10 minutes. Cathal O'Connell pulled a point back for Zimmer on 11 minutes and the margin was back to one on 13 minutes when O'Connell pointed a free. Carey responded with a pointed free for Atlantic on 14 minutes. Points from Ken Collins and O'Connell had Zimmer on level terms after 17 minutes. O'Connell then put Zimmer in front after 18 minutes after a good run and point. Sean Glynn had Atlantic back on level terms after 19 minutes after a strong run and well taken point. Justin Cahill hit his first point of the match on 20 minutes and Atlantic were back in front. Back came Zimmer with a point from Conor Deasy on 22 minutes. Zimmer had a good goal chance on 24 minutes but Padraigh Chaplin was denied by a great save from Darragh McGrath. Cathal O'Connell put Zimmer back in front with a well taken point on 25 minutes. Atlantic finished the half strong with points from Cahill, Carey and Cleary to leave it Atlantic Aviation 0-10 Zimmer 0-8 at half time.

Zimmer got a great start to the second half when Ken Collins scored a goal after 32 minutes. Three points from Cathal O'Connell had Zimmer 1-11 to 0-10 in front after 37 minutes. Cleary pulled a point back for Atlantic on 38 minutes. Points from Carey and Cleary made it a one point game after 47 minutes. Zimmer hit back on 49 minutes with a goal from Padraigh Chaplin to go 4 points clear and looked to be in a strong position. Atlantic had other ideas and were back on level terms inside 2 minutes. Cahill scored another point on 50 minutes and Jake Mulcahy made it a level game once more when he finished well to the back of the Zimmer net on 51 minutes. Cahill fired Atlantic in front after 55 minutes with a good point from a tight angle. Alan Mulready put Atlantic 2 points clear after a good run and finish. Sean Glynn made it a 3 point game in injury time before Darragh Carey ensured there was no way back for Zimmer with a well taken goal deep into injury time to leave it Atlantic Aviation 2-17 Zimmer 2-11 at the finish.
