Sixmilebridge 1-08 The Banner 3-10
Sixmilebridge Junior B’s got their 2018 league campaign off to a disappointing start against 2017 Junior C champions, The Banner, in O’Garney Park yesterday afternoon.
The first half was a low scoring affair, which had the buzzers in control for much of the half before a Banner goal in the 25th minute, had the teams level at the half time break. Kieran Liddane got the winners off to a great start with a well worked point, before two frees from Caimin Barrett. The Banner tagged on two points to keep in touch , before another Liddane special and a Jamie Lyons score. The buzzers were guarding a three point lead before the final score of the half went to the Banner with a green flag.
Unfortunately the second half was mostly one way traffic, with The Banner outscoring the hosts by 2-8 to 1-3. Mikey Corbett sprang a number of big names from the bench, but alas it could not stem the tide. Martin Conlon got a goal for the buzzers following a great catch and lay-off from Jamie Lyons. Conlon also converted 0-3 frees after his introduction. But the Banners fitness and hunger could not be matched by the bridge.
Sixmilebridge are away to Tulla next weekend, where they will be hoping for an improved performance.
On a disappointing day, Kieran Liddane, David O’Meara and Jamie Lyons tried hardest for the local team.
