Session 2 of the Bridge Bucks & Parents night took place this evening in the GAA Hall. Numbers were up again with close on 60 kids and an equal amount of parents in attendance.

Peter Casey was again Master of Ceremonies and his energy and wit ensured both Parents and our Stars of the Future were kept on their toes.

Top Clare FM DJ Syl O Connor was in attendance with his grandson Cilian and any ideas Syl had on practicing his commentary in preparation for the upcoming league were put to a halt when he found the pace of the current U6 & U8s was too fast to follow.

Peter spoke about how young players need repetition in order to learn just like in school but it was also essential that they were in a happy & fun environment to soak up the information being thought. Some drills were repeated from last week with reminders on:

- holding the hurley short,

- keeping an eye on the bean bag while solo running

while new drills on "rocking the baby" and "dancing with the hurley" were very popular with the young Bucks.

Peter made some reference to the All Blacks and their concept of "looking for the gap" rather than going straight through a tackle which prevents injury. To do this players need agility and speed as well as a good eye to spot the gap.

Players should move on their toes and their heels should not hit the ground.

This was very well demonstrated by 1995 All Ireland Feile winner Podge Flannery who showed he still had the footwork to outwit the best corner backs in the game.

The sessions will break for 2 weeks now where parents are encouraged to practice the drils learned to date - Watch this space for more coaching videos later this week.
