Our under 13 shield team brought the curtain down on a very successful season for our under 13 hurlers with a comprehensive victory over Kilmaley in the final of the shield competition at Kilmaley recently . The team which had a hard fought win over Inagh Kilnamona at the semifinal stage asserted themselves early with goals from Michael Morey and Niall Moloney.
The half back line of Callum Toomey, Matt O Halloran and Jack Phelan got on top of Kilmaleys half forwards from the outset and proceeded to deliver superb ball to our forwards who in turn were in a position to score against an over worked Kilmaley defense . The selectors as is the norm in this competition gave all the panel close to 30 minutes of game time.
One of the most notable features of this panel was the mobility of many of the panel which will stand to them in their future hurling careers . The scoring of 4 goals by the poacher supreme Niall Moloney and the pace and skill of Michael Morey in scoring a hat trick of goals and the inspiring speech of captain Jack Phelan were other highlights of a stress free occasion for the hard working selectors and the loyal band of parents who put so much into the development of these outstanding well behaved young men.
A special word of thanks to the referee and his 6 officials and to Tom Sheehan representing Bord na Og who gave so much of their valuable time to making the occasion possible.
