Sixmilebridge 2-21 Ballyea 0-17

When the draw was made, the clash of 2018 champions Ballyea and 2017 Champions Sixmilebridge was seen as the tie of the round and was built up this way in local media with live coverage on Clare FM and on Clare GAAs excellent new YouTube channel. The Bridge were untested in round 1 after beating Clarecastle so we were not sure what to expect while Ballyea had a super win in extra time over Clooney/Quin.

Many neutrals in attendance were hoping to see a matchup between Seadna Morey and Tony Kelly but this never materialized as Morey lined out in the Bridge half back line while Evan McInerney was tasked with marking the Ballyea talisman.

The first half was evenly contested before the Bridge edged ahead into a 11 to 9 lead at the short whistle. The Bridge then hit their purple patch at the start of the second half with quick goals from Brian Corry following a superb catch from the puckout from the ever threatening Alex Morey and another from Pa Mulready who drifted unnoticed up the wing to finish well. This finished the game as a contest as Ballyea failed to reach the pace of their Round 1 game while the Bridge continued to finish the half with 10 points to run out winners and enter the draw for the 1/4 finals.
