Sixmilebridge 4-22 Inagh Kilnamona 1-11.

Sixmilebridge under 16’s were in action in Shannon last Sunday afternoon when they played Inagh Kilnamona in this Under16 A Quarter Final. They got off to a flyer with Oisin Breen winning possession from the throw in and made a blistering run laying off a pass to Adam Murray and within 30 seconds they had their first point on the scoreboard. A minute later Dara Casey joined him with one of his own, but any thought of a rout was soon snuffed out as the ‘Bridge lost Colin Kelly to injury after just 7 minutes being replaced by Conor Murphy. Two minutes later Inagh Kilnamona were ahead. First a long range free from Josh Guyler went between the posts, and then Inagh Kilnamona won possession out in the midfield area with Guyler making a run at the ‘Bridge goal. The ‘Bridge backs were caught napping as he ran at them unchallenged flicking the ball over the head of Cian Fawl into the back of the ‘Bridge net.

It was the wakeup call the ‘Bridge needed as from there to the end of the half they were the dominant side all over the field outscoring Inagh Kilnamona eleven points to two, and what was most impressive was every one them came from play with five different scorers. Halftime score Sixmilebridge 0-13 Inagh Kilnamona 1-4.

Inagh Kilnamona started brighter in the second half scoring two points in the first two minutes. Any thoughts of a comeback were gone when Colm Flynn won possession in midfield six minutes in and made a run passing to David Kennedy who set Conor Murphy free to send the ball to the back of the net. It was Murphy again 3 minutes later who struck for his second goal with the ‘Bridge now firmly on top. Inagh Kilnamona continued to fight on but any inroads they made were cancelled out by a rampant ‘Bridge forward line. The ‘Bridge lost Luke O Halloran to injury after 14 mins and his replacement had this game over as a contest within three minutes of his introduction. Fionn Hayes moved into full forward and within 30 seconds David kennedy sent him a lovely ball in from the wing which he quickly dispatched to the back of the net. A minute later he won his own possession and hit a bullet of a shot into the left corner and the game was over. This was a vey impressive display from Sixmilebridge under 16’s and they have now advanced to the semi final which is on this Saturday at 1.00 pm in Wolfe Tones Shannon where their opponents will be Eire Og Ennis.

For Inagh Kilnamona, Sean Rynne Corner forward, Niall Mullins centre back, and Shane Woods full back were very impressive but it was Josh Guyler (half forward) who really stood out and he fought right to the end.

For Sixmilebridge, it is hard to pick out any one as it was as good a team effort as your going to get. Dara Casey however showed great speed and excellent first touch scoring five points all from play. Scott Kirkland and Evan O Callaghan were also rock solid in defence.
