Our U12 hurlers have been invited to take part in a skills challenge over the next few weeks.

Organized by our friends in Newport GAA, the clubs involved in the challenge are Kilmacud Crokes, Ballyboden St Endas, Athenry, Killeagh, De La Salle, Ballina, Newport and ourselves.

The challenge will run as follows:

  • At the start of each round a new skill will be be announced - for example it could be how many jab lifts you can do in a minute, how many strike off left and right you can do in a minute etc
  • Our players will practice the skill and get their parents to submit their best score to their coach
  • The coach will submit the the average score for the squad and the highest individual score to the organizers in Newport
  • In each round, each club will pair off against another club. The club with the highest average score will get 1 point and the club with the highest individual score will get a point.

The first round will run until this Wednesday evening (22nd) where the challenge will be how many strikes a player can make off their left and right sides in a minute. The player must be at least 6ft from the wall or rebounder and alternate between striking off their left and right with every shot. The matchups in this round are as follows:

  • Newport v Athenry
  • Ballina v Kilmacud Crokes
  • Sixmilebridge v De La Salle
  • Ballyboden St Endas v Killeagh

Many thanks to Newport for organising the challenge. We hope as many of our u12 players as possible take part in the challenge its a great way for the lads to improve their skills and helps us to maintain our connections with these clubs whom we hope to meet once again on the hurling field in the not too distant future.
