Kilmurry Primary School celebrated on the double the other week as they collected silverware in The Camogie and Hurling Primary Schools Finals. This was a great achievement for this small school and also for Sixmilebridge GAA Club.

The girls were first up on Tuesday in the Division 3 Final against Barefield NS. Like they have done all year the Kilmurry girls over powered, out fought and out skilled the opposition to win comfortably. At half time the score was Kilmurry 6-0 to Barefield's 1-0. It ended up finishing Kilmurry 10-2 to Barefield 3-1. Four goal hero was Aoibhin McNamara. Maeve Egan was a hat trick hero with three goals. And Clooney born Emily Costello chipped in with 3-2 to finish the scoring. Without the injured Kate Fitzgerald made this result all the more special. All the girls contributed to a great year where no team was able to live with them. They will now contest the heights of Division 2 Camogie next year. Special thanks to Manager Mary 'Cody' Clune and Jimmy Conlon who did splendid work with the team all year. Plans have already started for next year and the push for the 3 in a row. The panel was : Kate Fitzgerald, Michelle Hurley, Emily Costello, Josette Hogan, Maeve Egan, Emma Stanley, Lucy Quinlivan, Nicole Neenan, Kayla Tuohy, Emelia McErlain, Emma Donnellan, Aoibhín McNamara, Eloise O'Brien, Louise O'Mahony.

That result added extra pressure to the boys on Wednesday. They were up against Clonmoney NS. With injuries to the excellent goalie all year Gary O Callaghan and Adam Holoway, Kilmurry had to change things up for the final. Conor Gilligan stepped up to stand in goals for the day and pulled off two great saves. Kilmurry found it hard to break down Clonmoney in the 1st half and went in a point down. With David Kennedy been double marked and Clonmoney playing with five defenders to Kilmurry's three forwards, Kilmurry were getting frustrated with 25 minutes gone in the contest still a point down. But the boys put their heads down and worked harder. They never panicked and started to pick off scores. With a great work ethic from the whole team the better team prevailed on a score of 4-9 to 1-9. The skill levels on both sides was definately on a par with what was seen in Division 1 final later that day. David Kennedy despite been triple marked at times scored 2-3. Adam Murray got an inportant 1-2. Captain Evan O Callaghan scored 0-3 and super subs Jack Hughes 1-0 and Evan Neenan 0-1 finished off the scoring. Michael Carey, Seamus O Connell and Morgan O Connell have to get special mention aswel as they defended like warriors and set up the forwards for alot of their scores. Oran Carey and Oisin Breen worked like dogs around midfield and also had Clonmoney's top player Mark Delaney to contain with. This was a great team performance and every player on the panel contributed during the year to this win. During the year every player on the panel got Championship game time. Like the girls the boys went the year unbeaten. Also losing out earlier in the year to Sixmilebridge NS in the semi final after extra time of the Ard Scoil Hurling Tournament showed the strength of this team. The Boys of 4th and 5th class in the school also won a special tournament hosted by Kilkishen NS a few weeks ago. The boys panel is :
Evan O Callaghan, Gary O Callaghan, Seamus O Connell, Morgan O Connell, Michael Carey, Oran Carey, Jack Hughes, David Kennedy, Adam Murray, Evan Neenan, Conor Gilligan, Oisin Breen, Darragh Custy, Jack Holloway, Cian Johnson, Tom Forde, Adam Holloway, Gavin McMahon, Alex Muldoon, Rhys Slater.

Thanks must go to School principal Kevin Clohessy for not only his role with the boys team this year but also the level of hurling in the school. Not many schools in Clare can say that every child in the school brings a hurley and helmet into school every week. Brian Culbert and Jimmy Conlon did great work with the boys aswell this year. The Tipp man Brian O Connell deserves many thanks also for his help.

Also a special thanks to the parents and supporters who drove to the trainings and matches during the year. Ye gave both teams and the trophies a great welcome back to the school on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Also a thanks to Sixmilebridge principal Gareth Heagney and teachers Milo Keane and Alan Kilcoyne for their work for Primary School hurling in the parish.
