Parish League Week 1, Game 1,

Mountain 5-17
St. Mary's 6-9

Conditions were tough and it made hurling difficult at times but to be fair a great effort by all teams on the night. The Mountain were the winners in the end, having played against the wind in the first half, they soaked up the numerous attacks by St. Marys.

Notably for St Marys, Parish League debutants Colin Kelly and Evan Murphy contributed on the scoreboard along with veteran David O' Conor, 1-3, and to the surprise to many on the night, Derek Fahy contributed 1-1. Derek Fahys mazy runs and scores brought back memories of his younger days playing wing forward for the 'Bridge. Padraig Chaplin chipped in with goals at vital times to keep Marys in the match. For Marys Caimin Morey, Derek Fahy and forwards David O' Conor and Padraig Chaplin combined well with lots of short stick passes and overlaps before raising the white and green flags. Well done also to Aidan O' Conor from the Togging out crew, who flew the flag for Kerry hurling on the night.

For the Mountain, young gun Seamus O' Connell proved to be unmarkabkle on the night and contributed no less than 2-5. Danny Dunne on the other wing put in a good performance across the game also. Veteran Stiofan Fitzpatrick led the full forward line contributing 2-1, along with returning players Ian Chaplin, 1-1 and Podge Flannery 0-1. It was great to see Tommy Morey back in the half back line, like he had never left! Similarly great to see returning players Brian O' Neill (Togging out Crew) and Richard Drake help the Mountain cause on the night. Best on the night for the Mountain were Danny Morey, Pa Mulready, Stevie Mulready and Cathal Lynch.

Johnny Corbett's tactical switches on the night were matched equally by Terence Chaplin and Noel Purcell on the line. Purcell commented afterwards that the Mountain were probably at an advantage weather-wise, in that where most people felt the conditions couldn't have been worse, it was only a soft evening for the Mountain men who would be well used to weather like that!
