Parish League Week 1, Game 2

Kilmurry 6-10
Cappa 2-2

If anyone thought that conditions were tough for the first match, by God, they'd have been aghast at the rain, wind and hailstones that ensued for the 2nd game! Nevertheless 30 players, management teams, some brave supporters, referee, match officials and unbelievably cameraman Tom Culbert stuck it out to ensure the fixture was fulfilled and recorded effectively.

On the night, a well fancied Kilmurry team took the honours and they seem to have a never ending well of talent to pull from. The bookies favourites since panels were announced a couple of weeks ago, there have been murmurings that Kilmurry should be split, even that the Bridge road and Church road should revert to the Mountain or Cappa.

For Cappa, down a few due to Covid restrictions, they battled hard throughout. It was great to see some new faces help with the Cappa cause in Johnny Hayes, Kevin Lynch and Barry Loughnanne and some debutants in Gavin O' Reilly, Luke Keogh and Eoin Hogan. Cappa had good displays in the backs from Paul Fitzpatrick, Barry Fitzpatrick and Luke Keogh who made many forages into the oppositions half. Up front Lorcan Fitzpatrick (0-2) led by example, he fought for every ball and was involved in nearly all Cappas attacks. Kevin Lynch, Evan McInerney were instrumental in most of Cappas play around the middle of the field while up front contributions by Ian Chaplin (1-00) and Parish League debutants Luke O' Halloran (1-0) and Cian Gleeson helped the cause.

Kilmurry were able to call on the services of club stalwart Niall Gilligan in goals who showed that he has lost none of the reactions, first to the ball on plenty of occasions to setting up attack's with inch perfect puckouts to players in space. Maybe Gilly could continue into his 50s with this new position for him! Elsewhere Kilmurry had their best performances in Brian Carey, Cathaoir Agnew (1-1) and Tiernan Agnew (1-1), Cian Hogan (2-1) and the ever busy Ciaran Hassett (1-3). Adam Murray also chipped in with 3 points on the night. Great to see new Parish league debutants in Adam Murray (0-3), Oisin Breen, Morgan O' Connell, Evan and Gary O' Callaghan, Michael Carey, Conor Gilligan, Sean Macnamara (1-1) and Cian Hogan. With all those new players coming on stream it certainly proves that there has been a lot of activity in Kilmurry, and not just on the field!
