Kilmurry Steam Train keeps on Rollin’
Parish League Rd 3, Game 1
Kilmurry 7-12
Mountain 4-09
The Kilmurry steam train just kept on rollin’ last Saturday evening in Lees Road. Welcoming Seadna Morey into their ranks for a first Parish League start in 2022, his explosive pace was unrivalled and a haul of 1-1 probably didn’t reflect his dominance on the night.
With only 4 points in it at half time, the Mountain really felt they had a chance but early goals for Kilmurry propelled them too far ahead of the Mountain to be caught in the end. Also some missed goal chances by the Mountain would have really kept the game alive but by fine margins these chances just would not go the right side of the posts. Notably Padraig Chaplin was involved in 3 very close goal chances on the night. For the Mountain, Kieran Liddane hurled well in the back, Danny Morey and Seamus O’ Connell at midfield and Podge Flannery battled hard all day up front. Danny Dunne is playing very well in the half forward line and caught several balls before using the ball wisely.
For Kilmurry, they had good performances all round the field, and were ably led by Brian Carey from center back. Up front Tiernan Agnew again caused a lot of damage claiming 3-1 for his evenings work. But on the night the most notable performance came from Morgan O’ Connell, shooting 3 unreal points from distance, the young Kilmurry man may be staking a claim for a forward spot later in the year rather than his usual positions in the backs.
Kilmurry are now a certainty for the finals, with Finnachtas their last game in week 5. The Mountain have a big game next weekend with Finnachtas to determine who will be poised to challenge Kilmurry in the final. Cappa may also come into play yet.
