Sixmilebridge 2-10 The Banner 1-13

Following inclement weather on Saturday morning this Junior C Conty final was moved from Kikishen to Clonlara at short notice meaning the throw in was delayed to facilitate the arrival of the Banner. Following some consultaton with the referee our opponents were not giving in to coin toss for a change of jerseys so to prevent any further delays the Bridge management decided to line out in borrowed black jerseys.

Caimin Barrett opened the scoring for the Bridge with a fine point from play before the Banner came into the game with 2 points before Martin Conlon levelled matters. The Bridge captain Conlon showed his class half way through the fist half when he took on his man and bried to the back of the net to leave the score 1-03 to 0-04. Podge Flannery, Barrett and Conlone again following a newat passage of play from Michael O Halloran levelled matters at half time on a score of 1-07 to 0-10.

The Bridge missed a number of scoring opportunities from frees in the first half and this seemed to give the Mid Clare side belief - Their manager Niall Romer of Kilmaley had his side well up for this game and going in at half time the Bridge boys knew they were in a battle for the second half.

Noel Flannery opened the Bridge scoring in the second half while the Banner pressed on with a well worked goal having opened up the Bridg defence to put them in the lead by 1-11 to 1-08. Conlon added 2 points to put the minimum between the sides and set up an anxious finish. Caimin Barrett who opened our scoring on the day finished it with a great goal to put us 2 points up. However the Banner pushed forward and put us under serious pressure before knicking over 2 points to level the game.

Talks of extra time were forgotten as both teams left the field for the showers and must do it all again in a few weeks. Jude Kearneys side will be happy to get another day out and a big improvement will be required to bring the cup home to Garney side.
