Our U11 hurlers made the short trip in the road to Mungret St Pauls GAA on Saturday last to take part in the Pa O'Brien memorial tournament which involved 8 clubs with each club fielding 2 teams.

Group 1: James Stephens (Kilkenny), Newtown Shandrum (Cork), Ballybrown (Limerick), Sixmilebridge (Clare)

Group 2: Mungret St Pauls (Limerick), Michael Cusacks (Galway), Bishopstown (Cork), JK Brackens (Tipperary)

After the pre tournament briefing we were into our first game against Ballybrown - the tournament saw 2 games going on at the same time involving both Bridge teams with the combined score counting. In our opening game both teams defeated Ballybrown to get us off the mark. In round 2 Sixmilebridge (1) were defeated by NewtownShandrum but Sixmilebridge (2) racked up a big score and held the Cork boys scoreless so the combined score saw the Bridge get the win. In our final game against James Stephens both teams recorded a win to put the Bridge top of the table on maximum points.

After a 1 hour break the Bridge faced hosts Mungret St. Pauls in the semi final while Michael Cusacks played Newtown Shandrum. Sixmilebridge (1) suffered defeat while Sixmilebridge (2) were successful bit unfortunately our combined score just fell short. In the final Michael Cusacks defeaed Mungret by a single point in what finiahed a very well ran tournament.

A Big Thanks to the O'Brien family and Cobi sports for the very kind gesture of goodie bags for all players and also to the hosts Mungret St Pauls for the hospitality which ensured all players and supporters were fed and watered throughout the day for what was an excellent day of hurling.
