Sarsfields U10 Tournament

Our U10s made the trek to Sarsfields Gaa Club on Sunday last for the Donal Buckley Tournament. The annual Tournament for 2023 had 4 Clubs participating with 3 teams each - Sarsfields (Cork), Sixmilebridge (Clare), Ballygunner (Waterford) and Na Piarsigh (Limerick).

The 'Bridge gave a good account of themselves across the 9 games that were played with loads of game time for the boys who got to test themselves against some of the top clubs in Munster. This was a first outing for our U10s this year as U10s and they were ably assisted by a number of U9s. They were presented with their medals at the end of the tournament. Well done to the parents that made the long trek down to Cork.

A fine spread of food was laid out afterwards by Sarsfields ensuring the players and coaches went home with full stomachs, well done to the club for a great day which was very enjoyable and very well organised.

Sarsfields is of course the hurling club of recently deceased Cork hurling legend Teddy McCarthy, there were tributes to their former player posted around the grounds and amongst those in attendance was none other than current Cork hurling manager Pat Ryan who chatted away to the coaches throughout the day.

Donal Buckley Bio:
Donal’s grandfather was a founder members of the Sars club in 1896 and Donal played right corner back on the first Sars team to win a county Senior title in 1951, where he had the distinction of scoring a point that day against Glen Rovers from his corner back position. He went on to be part of various Sars management teams and also on the administrative side of the Club as a committee member and also served as Club President.

A couple of our injured players, Will Slattery and Rhys Tuohy travelled to support their team mates, which is fantastic to see, and hopefully they will be back in action soon.
