180 girls and boys from 1st & 2nd class in Sixmilebridge, Kilmurry and Clonmoney National Schools took over Cappa Lodge pitch and the Arena on Monday morning for their end of year finale blitz.

Excitement had been building in all 3 schools for the last number of weeks in the lead up with one child saying it was like waiting for Santa all over again.

Sixmilebridge school fielded 11 teams of 9 a side, Clonmoney brought 7 teams and Kilmurry school had 2 teams who gave their all across 8 pitches and both parts of the arena.

Each team played 3 games of hurling as part of the National Cumann na mBunscol week, displaying their skills worked on during the year as part of the clubs primary schools coaching programme. There was an extended water break after game 2 while those outdoors took shelter in the dressing rooms.

Once the skies cleared up game no. 3 showcased some cracking scores, hooks, blocks and tackles.

Mile buíochas to school principals, teachers and support staff, the club facilities team, SIxmilebridge Minor Club for the ice creams, all the club volunteers, coaches, parents and underage players who refereed and assisted on the day and to our Schools Coaching Officer Jimmy Corbett for coordinating the blitz.
