The annual Clare Cup Garneyside Derby takes place tonight in O'Garney Park Sixmilebridge at 6:45. The Bridge V Cratloe has become a customary first round game of the Clare Cup for the last number of years and while supporters from both sides look forward to the clash their will be disappointment that the county contingent will not be available for selection which weakens both camps who are well represented on Gerry O'Connor and Donal Moloneys squad.
However some new talent will get their chance and both sides who had mixed runs in their U21 campaigns will surely spring some of these players into action tonight.
The Bridge have a new captain for 2017 in Paidi Fitzpatrick with Noel Purcell Vice Captain. Team manager John O'Meara has also finalised his backroom team for 2017 consisting of Pat Keane, Brian Culbert, Sean Chaplin and Diarmuid Carr. As the ground hardens and the evenings get longer Gilly is een more and more around the field fuelling speculation he will return for a 23rd season of senior championship action - getting close to a silver jubilee.
Our U14A hurlers face Ballyea in O' Garney Park on Sunday at 11 and the U14 Shield game also against Ballyea is on afterwards at 1215 in round 1 of the Championship.
The Intermediate hurlers who ply their trade in Division 2A of the Clare Cup will play Tulla in Dr. Daly Park on Saturday at 5:30PM. The Bridge caused a surprise in defeating Tulla in the same fixture last year so the Windswept will be a tough battleground this year.
