In the next series of Coaching our Coaches and Parents next Monday we welcome Fergal Lyons to the Arena for a workshop on Fundamental Movement. This course is aimed at all coaches and parents of underage Hurling and Camogie Players in the club.
While good movement is essential to hurling and all sports it is also very important in our young peoples lives in order to maintain a healthy lifestlye.
Fergal has been a PE teacher for nearly 20 years, teaching and coaching hurling in Ardscoil Ris and St Colman's, Fermoy, County Cork. He was recruited by the department of education to devise a programme called Move Well Move Often in 2015 and worked for 5 years developing Physical Literacy and Fundamental Movement Skills in Irish primary schools. Following that programme he was responsible for rolling out leaving cert PE as an exam subject nationally until this year. He is now back teaching and coaching in Ardscoil Ris since September and was involved in winning the Dean Ryan Munster Hurling title this year.
