Intermediate Hurling Championship, Rd. 3
Sixmilebridge 1-17
Inagh Kilnamona 0-16
Venue - Gurteen
Referee - Augustine Callaghan
Our Intermediates faced into Round 3 of the championship on Sunday against a good Inagh Kilnamona side with a lot of young blood. They were without the whole full forward line from the previous day, Sean Lynch (injury), Alan Mulready (Away with Work), Paul Corry (Senior) along with Captain Cathaoir Agnew (injury) and Fiachra O' Bhraoin (Senior). Nevertheless the loss of key players such as those above did not impact the teams performance. A very spirited display with huge work rate all over the pitch.
The 'Bridge led by 0-10 to 0-07 at half time. Jack Corry leading the scoring in the first half with 4 points, 3 from frees. Colin Kelly, Colm Flynn, Ronan Tuohy, Luke Keogh, Kevin Lynch and Adam Breen all contributed a point each also.
A purple patch for Inagh Kilnamona just after the half time break saw them fight hard and the sides were level after 24 minutes of the second half. Corry with a free kept the 'Bridge in it, before Adam Breen with the point of the match put the 'Bridge 2 up. Inagh Kilnamona repsonded with a well worked point to put the minimum between the teams in injury time. Up pops Ronan Tuts Tuohy with a great goal, he got the ball in the corner and rounded the corner back and then batted to the net, and there was a great cheer from the crowd in attendance. The goal put the game beyond Inagh Kilnamona but there was time for one more bit of excitement as Inagh Kilnamona keeper Pat Kelly was given a red card by referee Augustine Callaghan for a late pull.
The win keeps the 'Bridge hopes of qualifying for the knockout stages very much alive, they have 2 wins from 3 outings and have Ogonnolloe left to play in the final round, currently scheduled for Sat 2nd Sep 23 in Broadford at 4:00Pm. The 'Bridge are joint top of the table on 4 points, with Parteen Meelick also on 4 points.
Good for the 'Bridge on the day were Cian Hogan, solid in goals, Oisin Breen who didn't give an inch in the backs, Colm Flynn in midfield who fought hard for every ball right up to the end and also contributed on the scoreboard, Adam Breen who scored a great point and fought hard and Ronan Tuohy who threatened a lot and finally got his just reward with a goal at the end to put the game out of reach of Inagh Kilnamona. The victory will hearten the Intermediate management who hopefully will have those that are currently injured, back for the final league game and also the group have shown that they have a good squad which they will need going forward having lost the few players to the Seniors also.
