Sixmilebridge GAA club are now seeking applications for the position of Games Promotion Officer. This full-time position is an integral part of the club’s ambitions to deliver on our ongoing development programme. We are looking for an enthusiastic team player who has underage coaching and development of hurling and camogie at the very centre of their ambitions. The successful candidate will help shape the clubs future while also contributing to the  wholistic development of children in the community.

Games Promotion Officer – Job description

Sixmilebridge GAA want to ensure continued player and coach development in line with the targets of our club development programme. The targets set out provide for a commitment to implement, continue and improve coaching practices in the club. To date, our Hurling Development Committee have successfully overseen the implementation and progression of the plan, the employment of a Games Promotion Officer (GPO) is an integral step to fully achieving the club’s ambitions. The successful candidate will become an active member of the Hurling Development committee, providing updates on progress to this committee and club executive.

Responsibilities

The GPO will be responsible for the following:

  • Devise and implement Coaching Plan in all Sixmilebridge GAA club feeder Primary schools
  • Organise Blitzes between Primary level feeder schools throughout the year
  • Provide foundation level courses for students in our local Secondary School
  • Coaching and supporting of underage teams within the club and implementation of Player

Development Pathway

  • Assist in fulfilling the administration related to the Coach education Programme and maintenance of records of courses and participants
  • Running of Halloween, Christmas, Easter, and Summer Camps
  • Assist in fulfilling the administration related to the Coach Education Programme and maintenance of records of courses and participants
  • Develop & improve participation rates amongst non-traditional GAA families in the parish
  • Organise events to improve the club’s profile and playing base within the urban areas of the parish
  • Complete a work roster sheet weekly and report to club designated officer

The above list is not exhaustive and may include any other reasonable duties as required and deemed appropriate to the post.

Required experience and qualifications

Applicants for the role must meet the following minimum criteria:

  • GAA Level 1 Coaching Qualification
  • Excellent administration, organisational and IT skills
  • Clean Driving license
  • Excellent timekeeper and of a reliable nature
  • Effective communication, motivation, and leadership skills
  • Knowledge of the GAA player Development Pathway
  • Knowledge of Primary Cycle Physical Education Syllabus

Desired skills and qualifications

The following is a list of additional skills and/or qualifications that would be favourably looked upon:

  • A degree (or equivalent third level qualification) in physical education / sports development or any other relevant disciple to the post
  • Level 2 GAA Coaching Award
  • Completed GAA tutor training programme
  • Previous coaching experience at primary schools / secondary schools’ level in the past 3 years

The position is full time (39 hour working week) reporting to the club executive. The nature of the role will demand a level of flexibility in terms of working hours with evening and weekend work to be expected. Salary respective of current market rates.
