The Sixmilebridge GAA Club would like to express our sincere sympathies to the Family and Friends of the Late Michael (Mickie) Deasy. Mickie lined for many years in our Club Jersey, the highlight being the County Final in 1962, in the drawn game and Replay against Ruan.

Described by a former teammate as a “player before his time”, he was an outstanding Athlete, winning many Honours along the way. He first lined out for Clare in the Munster Junior Hurling Championship against Tipperary on the 4th of May 1958, and 14 days later lined out for the Clare Minor Hurlers against Cork in the Munster Minor Hurling Championship.

1958 was a busy year for Mickie, because 6 months later he made his Senior Debut for Clare in the National Hurling League against Tipperary in Cusack Park in Ennis. His Championship Debut came in 1959 against Cork in Semple Stadium in Thurles.

Mickie had the distinction of playing with, and against, some of the greatest players to ever play the game of Hurling.
