On Saturday last our u11 hurlers were on the road early heading over the border into south Galway for a blitz involving 8 clubs:
Monaleen & Mungret (Limerick)
Doora Barefield, Ballyea & Sixmilebridge (Clare)
Bishopstown (Cork)
Holycross Ballycahill (Tipperary)
Michael Cusacks (Galway)
The blitz was 9 a side with 2 even teams per club, both teams playing at the same time against the same opposition and clubs switching teams at half time for what was a very fair method in ensuring all games were close and competitive.
We played games against Michael Cusacks and Bishopstown in Beagh before making the short trip over to Kilbeacanty to play Monaleen in the afternoon.
Big thanks to all the parents who came and supported the boys in what is the last U11 blitz for many of them - their last time playing with a smart touch sliotar, last time playing in a small sided game before the move up to U13 in 2024. Also a huge thanks' to Rory & Joe Gantly for coordinating the day and for all in Cusacks for their wonderful hospitality.
It was fitting that we started the season of blitzes in Galway (Clarinbridge) and ended in Galway on Saturday with appearances in Cork, Tipperary, Limerick and Kilkenny in between. The boys also played in provincial grounds including Cusack Park (Ennis), Gaelic Grounds (Limerick) and Semple Stadium (Thurles) throughout the year and the improvement in their skills and all round attitude and hurling has to be commended.
