On Friday night last, the minor club brought the year to a close with a double celebration. The U15A hurlers had their medals presentation, and a presentation was made to Matthew O’Halloran and Mark Sheedy for their fantastic achievements this year with the Clare minors.
The event was very well attended by players, parents, families, members of both the minor and senior club executive, PJ Fitzpatrick represented the hurling development committee and Pat Chaplin the club’s president.
Syl O’Connor opened proceedings with some insightful words to the players. He explained that Sixmilebridge GAA club continues to support the players, that the facilities will help nurture players, and it’s with very hard work and honesty from the players that will create fantastic opportunities and lasting memories.
The players then dined in style with some hot food and treats afterwards, while on a cold evening, parents, family members and friends had some hot tea, sandwiches and buns. Many thanks to Sixmilebridge GAA club and the Cosy Kitchen for providing the food. Thanks to the parents for providing food, and especially to Laura, Denise, Christine and Jean for managing the catering on the evening.
A highlights video of the year was then presented, which everyone enjoyed. Huge thanks to Damien Madigan once again for putting this together, these are fantastic memories captured for years to come. Last year’s highlights video has over 14,000 views.
The special guests of honour that presented the medals to the players were Matthew O’Halloran and Mark Sheedy. Matthew and Mark both won Munster and All-Ireland medals with Clare this year, the highest honours possible for any minor player.

Matthew and Mark both addressed the players afterwards and their main message to the players was to enjoy every day you can go out and hurl, enjoy playing with your friends you grew up with and if ye work hard together then ye can achieve great things.

The U15 manager Tadgh Keogh then said his words and firstly there were many people to thank. To Syl, Adrian and Danny in the Senior club, and to Eoin, Gwen and John in the minor club for their support throughout the year. To Damien and Olivia on stats, Tom for going the video and Carmel for doing first aid on match days. To Declan and Ian for posting on ClubZap, and to the hurling development committee for their support. Tadgh thanked his management team of Kevin, Shane, Cian, Damien and Adrian for their commitment and efforts all year.

But most of all, Tadgh thanked the parents for always having their players fully committed, and to the players for their continued dedication and hard work over a long season. Tadgh then addressed the players where he explained to them that they need to build on their achievements and continue to grow and develop as players.
Eoin Gavin then spoke where he thanked Tadgh and his management team, parents and to the players for their achievements this year. He then made a presentation to Mark and Matthew on behalf of Sixmilebridge GAA club, he described how everyone in the club enjoyed following them on their journey throughout their campaign and that we are all very proud of them.

The players also received their gear bags, socks, and a photo of the panel. Thanks to Jamie in Centra for sponsoring the gear bags, to Cobi-sports for all the gear and to Kevin Phelan for organising the photos. Tadgh then presented Cuan the teams captain with the gear bags.

And that concluded the night, we wish all players the very best in 2024 as they join up with our U15 and U17 teams.
