Junior As record second league win.
(Report thanks to Patrick Punch)
Sixmilebridge 1-16
Whitegate 0-08
The bridge recorded their second league win of the year last weekend, this time against Whitegate. The game was played in wet and windy conditions which made it hard for both teams. The first half was a close affair. Tommy Liddy opened the scoring with a great point on the run. It took Whitegate 10 minutes to register their first score which came from a free. The rest of the half was pretty even with both teams exchanging points.
Whitegate started well in the second half by scoring 3 points in a row without reply and only trailed by a single point. Indeed 10 minutes of the second half had passed before the bridge got their first point of the half. The bridge then had a goal disallowed for a square ball. Shortly after Eoin Quinn rounded his marker laid off a pass to Stephan Mulready but his effort hit the cross bar. Finally the bridge found the back of the net with a well taken goal by Tommy Liddy. From then on the bridge finished strongly and the final score was 1-16 to 0-08 pts.
Credit must be given to Whitegate who battled bravely throughout. The game was a lot closer than the score board suggested.
This win puts the bridge into second place in the league. Ballyea will be there next opponents. This game will take place in the bridge on Sunday.
