Update for the last month for the u17s!

On April 30th, U17s played Clonlara in the minor league semi final, in Clonlara. SMB played against the wind in the first half and Clonlara had the best of the opening half with scores hard to come by for SMB. Points from Neil Forde and Rory Chaplin from frees kept SMB in touch and they went in 6 points adrift at half time.
Shortly after the break the ‘Bridge got 3 unanswered points from Cian Conroy, Neil and Rory. This was followed  by a goal from Conor Gleeson after good work from Zak Phelan. SMB pushed on and led by 5 until a goal in injury time reduced deficit to 2. Final score was 1-16 to 1-14, a good win from the U17s.

Saturday May 4th, a spin-a-thon in conjunction with Cystic Fibrosis Ireland was held in the village. This was a great event, and the U17s really appreciated all the support on the day.

May 15th saw the minor league final V Ballyea in SMB. SMB and Ballyea were even from the start with scores very hard to come by due to good tight defending. Cian Conroy and frees from Rory Chaplin were keeping SMB in the game. A few late, unsuccessful goal chances for SMB left the halftime score SMB 0-08 Ballyea 0-07.
Just after the restart Donal got a goal for SMB after good work from Stephen Gavin. But after this Ballyea stormed into the game with the aid of the wind and got great scores from Eoin Kennedy’s long range frees, and an Eoin O’Connor goal. Ballyea pushed on to win comfortably on a score line of 1-11 to 1-20.  A good campaign for SMB and congrats to Ballyea. Attention now has turned to the minor championship which starts the end of June.

Best of luck to all the lads doing the Junior Cert. and Leaving Cert. coming up in the next month!
