Smb 1-14 Ogonolloe 3-13

The Junior Cs made the long journey to Ogonolloe last Saturday evening for a Division 5c Rd. 2 league game. Conditions were good for hurling being dry and calm. Both teams had reduced squads on the evening but nevertheless produced an entertaining game. This game is a precursor to the first round championship game later in the Summer also between the two teams so both sides will have been taking notes.

The 'Bridge started well and by half time led 1-06 to 1-04. The 'Bridge goal coming from recent transferee to the club, American Matt Schwertferge. Noel Flannery and Martin Conlon who was the free taker for the day also added scores. Roger McCarthy in goals was unlucky not to save the Ogonolloe goal as the ball had taken a deflection. The 'Bridge forwards were finding it hard to penetrate a tough Ogonolloe defence but overall going in at the break 2 points up was positive.

For the second half the 'Bridge put up a good fight to maintain their lead well into the half but ultimately legs gave out and a few of the younger zippier half forwards were able to penetrate and raise two green flags. Jim Spaight however did prevent one certain goal via a tackle that Paul O' Connell would have been proud of! Damien Moloney chipped in with a superb point and James O' Neill also got himself on the scoreboard.

There were good performances from Matt Schwertferge, Martin Conlon and Paul Finan in the forwards but equally the backs had good performances from Billy Maxwell and Ed Skehan but overall the team played very well and only lost by 2 scores.

Former 'Bridge player Cormac Heffernan lined out at centre back for Ogonolloe and gave a good performance putting to good effect the years of training received in Sixmilebridge!

Manager Jude Kearney says he is happy with progress so far and is happy that some techniques from the training ground are being transferred to the match day. Although the first two games did not deliver the right results, the team did produce 2 good performances.

The next 2 leave games are home fixtures and the Bridge will welcome Wolfe Tones and the Banner to O' Garney park.
