Monday evening in O’Garney Park saw our U16A shield team in action for the first time this year. The opposition on the night was the amalgamated East Clare side Scariff/Ogonnelloe, who were fast off the mark and built up a 3 point lead. The ‘Bridges opening score of the game came from a placed ball by centre back Evan Murphy and which was cancelled with a pointed free from Scariff/Ogonnelloe. Matthew Dillon accounted for the ‘Bridges first point from open play and the lads swiftly settled into the game scoring a further 3-1 without any reply. Full forward David Kennedy scoring two of the goals while the other came from corner forward Conor Maxwell and the point from a well taken free from Evan Murphy. Scariff/Ogonnelloe were next to raise the white flag and this was matched by one from Matthew Hurley leaving the score at the half time whistle 3-4 to 5 points in favour of the ’Bridge.
The second half was a more tightly contested affair and scores were difficult to secure with the’ Bridge scoring 4 points to Scariff/Ogonnelloe's 3 points. After the re-start Scariff/Ogonnelloe were first to get the scoring off to a start and to which the ‘Bridge responded with a pointed free from Evan Murphy. Scariff/Ogonnelloe again raised the white flag and then the ‘Bridge slotted a further 2 points over the crossbar, when both wing forward Matthew Hurley and midfielder Matthew Dillon scored. Scariff/Ogonnelloe then got their final point of the game; and then a contribution from the accurate free taking of Evan Murphy left the full time score when the final whistle blew 3-8 to 8 points. The lad’s now have a bye this coming week in the competition and there next outing is away to Ballyea on Friday 14 July at 7.30pm.
