Junior B Championship Opener
Sixmilebridge 0-13
Tubber 1-20
The 'Bridge Junior Bs opened their championship campaign this morning in Clareabbey against Tubber. The Mikey Corbett managed side had a good league campaign narrowly missing out on a semi final spot on the last day of league action.
This clash pitted the 'Bridges fourth team against Tubbers second team.
The other game in the group between Smith O' Briens and Feakle ended in a draw the previous evening.
Tubber opened well and had a couple of points on the board from the evergreen Eamon Taffe inside the first few minutes. They continued their good form in the opening half proving to be stronger and faster in lots of positions across the field. The opening half ended 1-15 to 0-07 in Tubbers favour with the goal being fortunate to go in for them following a high dropping ball on goal. All points for the 'Bridge in the half coming from Martin Conlon, six from frees and one from play.
The 'Bridge having regrouped at half time came out after the break and hurled much better. They out scored Tubber in the second half by 0-06 to 0-05 but the damage had been done in the first half. Again all scores in the half came from Martin Conlon, five from frees and one from play.
The 'Bridge were without a number of regulars due to holidays but on the day there was no doubt that the better team won.
The 'Bridge will be hoping to gain points from their two remaining championship group games in order to proceed to the knock out stages.
