The Bridge hosted their U8 home blitz today in O'Garney Park with 4 visiting clubs from Clooney/Quin (x3), Feakle/Killanena (x1), Ogonnelloe (x2) and O Callaghans Mills (x2). The home side fielded 4 teams with 6 pitches in play to ensure all teams got 3 games with over 100 players in action.
Each game was 10 minutes aside with ground hurling for the first half and rising allowed in the sceond half. There was a some super skills on display on the day and every game was played in a sporting manner with great encouragement from management and parents on the sidelines.
A big shout out to everyone who helped out on the day with special mention to Holla and his referees from the U14 team, all the parents who baked and brought refreshments, our coaches who ensured everyone got plenty of game time in different positions, our catering crew who fed all the visitors, the lads who helped with the field setup and tidy up and of course all the players who behaved so well and got their just reward at the end with party bags kindly sponsored by local shop Flynns Centra. A special thanks to all our visiting clubs who played their part in a wonderful morning of hurling.
Thanks to our club and especially John Corbett who was up early this morning setting up the 2 big boilers, opened the gate, pitch, toilets, dressing rooms etc early this morning.
Finally well done to David O'Connor who put trojan work into organising the event - he was like a wedding planner all week chasing down people in preparation for the big day and all his hard work paid off. Word on the street is he is firm favourite to receive the "Top Blizt planner" award for 2017 at the GAA congress later this year!
Remember training continues on Monday (O'Garney Park) and Wednesday (Cappa Lodge) at 6PM.
