Wolf Tones 3-10
By Club PRO
A local derby against neighbours Wolfe Tones of Shannon was played out in O' Garney Park last Friday night. Conditions for hurling were perfect being dry, warm and overcast with the grass being just cut. The Shannon team were fielding their 3rd adult side after their intermediates and Junior As, great to see hurling thriving in the County's second largest town.
The 'Bridge started well and went into a 2 point lead but Wolfe Tones quickly hit back bringing the sides level after 10 mins. The 'Bridge were dealt a blow after 15 minutes in the contest when goalkeeper Ryan McCarthy had to go off injured with a hip injury. He was replaced by veteran Colm Noonan.
The half time score was Wolfe Tones 2-03 to the 'Bridge's 0-05.
The second half started at a lively pace and the 'Bridge did a lot of the attacking early on with Noel Flannery and Paul Finin who had been introduced as a sub causing trouble for the Wolfe Tones full back line.
In the end Wolfe Tones were able to add another goal to their tally and this along with the first half goals proved the difference between the teams. Wolfe Tones will be fancied for the championship and they had good performances from veteran Patsy Keyes and Barry Keane. Tom Tourish Brendan Davoren and Shane Purcell with the goals.
The 'Bridge are improving and strengthening as the league progresses and will have an eye on their championship opener against Ogonolloe. They have one league game left against League leaders Killanena in a couple of weeks. Good on the day for the 'Bridge were Martin Conlon who got through an amount of work at midfield, Paul Finin when introduced as a sub, Matt Schwertferge and James O' Neill.
