Junior C Championship Quarter Final

Sixmilebridge 1-13
Tubber 2-12

Venue - Clareabbey
Referee - Gerard Clarke

Our Junior C team got off to a good start against Tubber on Sunday with points from Danny Scullion and a Ben O'Connell free before Tubber responded. In a very tough 30 mins of hurling in this first half the Bridge added further points from Brian Culbert, Podge Flannery, a wonderful point from midfiield for Jack McCloskey and another free for Ben O'Connell. Ben also got a goal to leave the half time score 1-6 to 1-9, the Bridge trailing by 3 points.

The second half was equally as tough and every score was battled hard for. Ben O'Connell got all the Bridges scores in the second half from frees. Tubber were matching the Bridge score for score and added a second goal in the half. As the final moments approached Brian Casey caught a cross field ball from Kieran Liddane and he proceeded towards goal where he was fouled and the referee had no hesitation in awarding a penalty. A goal would win the match for the Bridge by 1. Goalkeeper Sam Edbrooke stepped up to take the penalty and despite a good effort the Tubber goalie saved the ball from crossing the line and proceeded to clear the ball out the field to which the referee blew the final whistle. A gallant effort in the end but alas not enough.

Good for the Bridge on the day were Ben O'Connell, Jack Phelan, Oisin Casey, Brian Culbert & Stiofan Ftzpatrick. Throughout the campaign there were good performances across the whole team and everybody was needed at some stage. An enjoyable year in which the team were competitive throughout the championship and catered for 30 players over the course of the campaign. Thanks to Captain Brian O'Loughlin, Manager John Fahy, Brendan O'Callaghan, Gerry Liddane, Tom Keogh and Coach Martin Conlon for all their efforts with training, challenge matches and championship.

The offering available for our older hurlers and those starting out is now quite robust including Parish League, Togging Out', Dads & Lads, Junior C Challenges, Championship and possibly League next year. Why retire when you can keep hurling..!
