Sixmilebridge 2-14 Clonlara 0-20

Round 3 of the Clare Cup Division 1 league took place in O'Garney Park under lights this evening with an entertaining game between Clonlara and Sixmilebdge. Conditions were wet and cold but this did not stop the determination of the visitors who raced into an early 4 points to 1 lead early in the game before Pa Sheehan and Jamie Shanahan with 2 levelled matters.

Brian Corry had the ball in the back of the net following some good work by his brother Paul while Cathal Lynch raised a white flag to put the Bridge level on 1-06 to 0-09 at half time.

Clonlara who are under the stewardship of ex Tipp midfielder Shane McGrath upped the tempo in the second half and led by 4 points on 55 minutes before Jason Loughnane drifted in frm midfield for our second goal before Brian Corry levelled matters. Michael O'Loughlin looked to have put the visitors ahead heading into injury time before the Bridge won a free in midfield when Deasy was fouled which Jamie Shanahan duly converted for a share of the spoils.

This puts the Bridge on 5 points from a possible 6 in the 3 games to date in the league and the whispers in the Tommy Morey memorial stand after the game was that our 2017 captain Paidi Fitz has finished his solo tour of Australia since leaving boy band Wrong Direction after their win in the Stars in their Eyes competition.  We have put together an Aussie urban dictionary for his team mates to understand the lingo for his return:

Fair Dinkum : true, real, genuine great score

Ripper : a really great game. "The score was 2-14 to 0-20 in the end .. twas a ripper"

Sickie : sick day. If you take a day off training when you are not actually sick "I'm only back a week and we were supposed to be training in Cratloe woods on Sunday morning so I pulled a sickie".

Stubbie holder : cooler for holding water bottles during a game. "Leahy, Im gasping will you throw us over something from the Stubbie holder".

Sweet as  : sweet, awesome. "Jamie Shanahans point to draw tonight was sweet as"

Good onya, mate!  .....  Back to tonights game ...
