Sixmilebridge v Newmarket-on-Fergus
Venue: Sixmilebridge
2nd April 2018
Ref: Kevin Walsh

Full time score: Sixmilebridge 1-12 Newmarket-on-Fergus 1-11

This first round of the league took place on Easter Monday with the rain drying off in time for the game. The vistors were first to register a score with a point from a free, they added one from play soon afterwards. Morey pointed first for the ‘Bridge from a free. Minutes later Rachel Kelly set up Finia O’Brien to split the posts. Sarah Loughnane was next to add to the scoreline when she rattled the Newmarket net. O’Brien added a further point before Newmarket came back to add a further two points. After a near miss Morey won the puck out to rectify her previous shot. Newmarket converted a free before Morey added three points (2 of which from frees). Niamh Lyons made a pass to McGrath before she pointed to conclude the half, leaving Sixmilebridge in the lead on a scoreline of 1-8 to 5 points. In the second half the ‘Blues’ got off to an ideal start scoring a goal. Both teams exchanged points from frees. O’Brien added her third, before Newmarket added two points to level the sides. Morey provided Lyons with the vital ball to win out the game by a point.
