U6 Bucks

2018 August 17th, U6 Blitz, at Cappa Lodge, between Sixmilebridge, Cratloe & Broadford

It had it all, there was full blown conversations in midfield, there was walk ons and walk offs, several unofficial drink breaks mid match, promises of treats and oh yeah there was a bit of hurling as well!

Friday night was a big night in the hurling calendar for these U6 ‘Bridge Bucks from the academy of hurling in Sixmilebridge, it was their was first match and first opportunity to don the ‘Bridge Jersey. They were up against near Neighbour’s Cratloe and Broadford, who arrived with equally passionate boys eager for the challenge.

The U6 ‘Bridge Bucks had 3 months pre season done already in preparation for their first blitz. Many of the skills developed in the 3 months of training were apparent on the evening, with fantastic ground striking, dribbling, shooting and blocking as well as getting used to some contact. The games were fun and the evening was topped off with the now standard goody bag!

Many thanks to Cratloe and Broadford for traveling to the ‘Bridge for the battle of East Clare and this may become a fixture into the future! All the boys were winners on the day having completed one of the big steps in their hurling journeys. Thanks also to our senior whistlers for the blitz who had no hesitation in helping out which is a great mark of a club, they were Seadna Morey, Sean Lynch and Pa Sheehan. Well done to the parents and coaches for helping the boys teach their potential each week and better themselves. Finally thanks for the helpers who provided the catering and cleaned up long after everyone was gone.

The training will continue for the U6 ‘Bridge Bucks, with a fun night planned for Friday week, 31st August, there will also be a skills assessment night so the boys can showcase the skills they have learned this year and finally there will be a finale night blitz in O’ Garney Park under the lights in October. More details to follow.

U8 Bucks

Saturday saw 5 teams represent the club at the Parteen hosted Blitz with teams from Smith O'Briens, Tulla and Parteen in attendance. Well done to all the boys who showed exceptional skill and club pride and provided great hope and encouragement for the coaching staff who were in attendance in large numbers.

On Sunday we brought our 2010 boys to Kilmurry for their annual Harvest Festival of Hurling. We played Cratloe in game 1 and Newmarket in the final in what turned out to be a very exciting game of hurling with some excellent scores throughout the game. The Bridge boys finished strong thanks to the jaffa cakes provided by Bernie at half time and won the U8 cup for only our second time. Well done to all the boys and thanks to Adrian Hogan for organising. A quick get well soon to Liam Flannery who was a big loss to the team on both days but was on the sidelines shouting encouragement to his team mates.
