Note: Well done to U16 hurler David who has penned his first piece of Sports Journalism for Sixmilebridge GAA. It is a super job and no doubt we will see him reporting on more big matches in the future - the ones he is not playing in that is! The Sixmilebridge U16 academy team played the second round of their championship campaign in O’Garney Park on Thursday evening against Eire Óg. The game was played in ideal conditions but unfortunately for Eire Óg the Bridge were just too strong in many key positions throughout the field on the day. Two minutes in Dara Fitzgerald opened the scoring with a well struck 65 that just dropped short and landed in the back of the Eire Óg net. This set the tone for the rest of the match as Lee Mulready followed suit a minute later with a superb goal of his own that gave the opposing goalie Cian Howard no chance. The Bridge dominated for the rest of the half with Daniel Chaplin scoring four great points setting up a score line of 2-09 to 0-01 in favour of the Bridge at half time.

The Bridge picked up where they left off and three minutes into the second half Brendan Carey rattled the roof of the Eire Óg goal. In the nineteenth minute Jack Hughes got his name on the score sheet with a well taken free from 50 yards out. The score of the game came in the twenty first minute when Josh Dillon slotted the ball between the posts from a very tight angle out on the wing while he was on the run. It was a good win for the Bridge but there are tougher tests to come.

For Eire Óg Cian Howard did well in goals as well as there centre back Aaron Lillis who fought hard all game despite the pressure he was under.

For Sixmilebridge Daniel Chaplin was excellent scoring six points, five of which were from open play. Tom Forde was also very good scoring four great points. Fiachra O’ Braoin was fearless in full back and made many vital catches throughout the game.

As with all the Academy games the Club plays, all subs got game time as well.
