Juniors Win Out Against Ennistymon in Close Contest

Sixmilebridge 4-12
Ennistymon 2-16
Referee - Flan Reilly
Venue - Cappa Lodge
Division 5C League, Round 5

Our Junior B 4th Team had a narrow win against Ennistymon last night in the 5th round of the Division 5C Hurling League. Played in Cappa Lodge on a surface that is as close as you could to perfect and in perfect weather.

The Juniors had the usual mix of youth and 'experience' on the evening and the West Clare outfit played with a noticeably possession type game, working the ball to the shooter in the best position.

Ronan Hayes was causing a lot of trouble at full forward, well able to win the aerial tussles and for his efforts he scored 2-1 in the first half. Young Conor Gilligan bagged 4 points in the first half from frees, 65s and some excellent scores from play under pressure and in the run. Stiofan Fitzpatrick and Jamie Lyons, chipping in with points also leaving the 'Bridge with 2-7 at the interval

Ennistymon ended the half with 1-10, with 5 frees contributing to their tally. Their running game put the Bridge backs under pressure especially when they created overlaps but all in all the backs, led by some excellent center back play by Robert Conlon weathered the pressure.

Jack Hughes opened the 'Bridge account with a point in the first half followed shortly by points by Stiofan Fitzpatrick and Jordan Ryan. Ennistymon hit back with a goal to keep the game close. But further goals from Paul Corbett and Ronan Hayes for his hat trick helped see out the game. The 'Bridge were leading in the final few minutes but only by the minimum and a lot of Ennistimon pressure had to be soaked up by the backs to see out the game.

On the day, there were some notable performances by the young lads, Conor Gilligan, Conor Morey and Jack Hughes, while there were also some vintage displays from Ronan Hayes, Stiofan Fitzpatrick and Robert Conlon. It was good to see newly married Johnny Hayes back on the field also!

With 2 games left for this team in the league, they are currently 4 from 5 having won 3 games, lost one and gotten a walkover.
