O' Garney Park was full of excitement last Sunday morning as our u9 & u10 girls got some last minute tips from their heroes on the clubs senior Camogie team before hopping on their private bus to Galway to face Salthill-Knocknacarra.

During the week the coaches had been sweating over the tough test the Galway girls might bring, cousin v cousin and college friends daughter v niece match ups, but the players were showing their cool and discussing which Supermacs ice cream was the best to have after the games.

Such was the excitement for an intercounty fixture Sixmilebridge fielded 4 teams of 7/8 a side for the first time this season.

The girls relished in the open spaces beside Pearse Stadium with some excellent striking, hooking, blocking, soloing and catching on display.

Each team played 3 highly competitive matches with both sets of coaches impressed by the opposition.

After a catering display put on by the Salthill-Knocknacarra parents that the cozy cottage would be proud of, the girls were refuelled and ready for the short trip to the bowling alley on the Headford Road.

After some impressive strikes and some girls insisting on using their ball hand, the fast footwork shown earlier was used to dodge the rucks that started to form around the arcade games.

From there it was a few doors up to Supermacs where Pat Mcdonagh had been seen earlier to make sure the happy meals and ice creams were ready for the girls.

After a subdued trip up with players picking bowling groups, counting white cars and resting the eyes, there was no containing the excitement on the bus home with the singing voices in full flow with renditions of hits from Ed Sheeran and Frozen.

A special thanks to the coaches and parents who travelled on the day and helped out, our driver Seamus from HM Travel, Neil in Planet Entertainment and the staff of Supermacs who threw in extra chips after hearing of all the ground the girls covered on the pitch earlier.

No doubt this trip will be remembered in years to come with one of the girls saying she wanted to go back to Galway tomorrow!

Míle Buíochas to Anthony for the invite.
