The 'Bridge u10 Hurlers brought the curtain down on a busy Hurling season with our annual participation in the Na Piarsaigh Tommy Burtchaell U10 tournament last Saturday. We brought 2 teams and split the lads according to age for the Cup(10 year olds) and the Shield(9 year olds). Both teams had a good day's Hurling with 4 games each.
The 'Bridge have been regular winners of the Cup in recent years and again gave a very good account of themselves in games against Blarney, Ballina, Ferrybank and Na Piarsaigh.
The U9 lads meanwhile really stamped their quality on the Shield competition and enjoyed a 100% record against their opposition from Clonlara, Cappamore, Na Piarsaigh and Cappamore again in the final and what's particularly noteworthy is that they had to prevail against physical opposition like Cappamore who had a majority of 10 year olds playing as it was their only team in the competition.
The mighty Dylan Keogh was a popular captain who collected the shield on behalf of this group of players and we hope that this and other positive Hurling experiences during the year will keep them practicing their skills over the winter months. Then in March they'll be mad for road as standard bearers in U10 Hurling next year.
Also recently the 'Bridge U10's enjoyed a great morning's Hurling with Oranmore/Maree in the Galway club's grounds. Ourselves and our hosts set out 4 teams each on the pitches provided so every player got a chance to play their hearts out across the 4 games in a very friendly and games based environment.
Thanks to former Galway goalkeeping custodian Richie Burke for hosting us on the day and it's great to add a new similar sized Club in terms of numbers, to our list of go-to Clubs for blitzes and challenge matches in the years ahead.
Afterwards our lads also got to sample and enjoy the benefits of Oranmore's indoor hurling facility which really whetted the appetite for all present for the exciting prospect of our own bigger and better Hurling arena being developed in the 'Bridge - Thanks to former Clare great and now Oranmore resident and clubman Frank Lohan for organising at short notice 👏👍
A great day out was then rounded off with a stop off to Gort Supermacs on the way home 🍔🍟🍦
Fair play to the U10 management team of Mike O'Halloran, John Fletcher Chaplin, Alan Murphy, Corey Downes, Richie Flanagan, Gerry Liddane, Donal Mullins and Tommy Conroy. Cheers also to Alan Whyte, Brian O'Connell, Martin Breen and Kevin Phelan who helped out on occasions during the year.
Well done and thanks to all the U10 Parents for the trip to Oranmore and all through the 2016 season. We look forward to same and more in the years ahead with this great bunch of Hurlers.....
C'mon the 'Bridge!!
Thanks to Paul Connaughton for some pictures from our visit to Oranmore/Maree here
