H&MV Engineering qualified for the Munster Junior Hurling Final after a defeating Atlantic Aviation in a good game of hurling despite the tough weather conditions at Staker Wallace on Thursday night.
H&MV went in front after 2 minutes when Kieran Morris scored from a free. Ciaran Quirke increased the lead to 2 points on 3 minutes with a good run and shot. Tom O'Gorman pulled a point back for Atlantic on 5 minutes after getting a good pass from Sean Chaplin. Morris scored a good point from distance to make it a 2 point game again on 7 minutes. Justin Cahill made a good run and had a shot for a goal well saved by H&MV keeper Ciaran Shortt on 8 minutes. Sean Chaplin scored from a free after a foul on O'Gorman on 10 minutes. Ciaran Quirke scored a fine point from center field on 12 minutes and it was a 2 point game again. Morris scored his third point of the game on 14 minutes with a great score from out near the sideline. Justin Cahill scored his first point for Atlantic on 16 minutes after a good run and shot. Morris replied with another score from distance on 20 minutes. Morris scored from a free on 22 minutes and there was now 4 points between the sides. Chaplin pulled a point back from a free on 24 minutes but right on half time another great score from Morris from out near the sideline left it H&MV Engineering 0-8 Atlantic Aviation 0-4 at half time.
Ciaran Quirke increased the lead to 5 points on 36 minutes and it was out to 6 points on 38 minutes when JJ Darmody scored a good point on the run. Chaplin pulled a point back from a free on 39 minutes and Cahill reduced the lead to 4 points on 40 minutes with another good score on the run. Morris pointed a free for H&MV on 42 minutes and then scored another good point from play on 45 minutes to leave 6 points between the sides with 15 minutes left. Atlantic looked in trouble but their credit they dominated the last 15 minutes. Sean O'Connor scored a point on 46 minutes and this was quickly followed by a point from Alan Mulready. Cahill then hit a purple patch scoring 3 points in a row to make it a one point game with 5 minutes left. A great score from Thomas Cleary leveled the match on 60 minutes and it looked like we were going to extra time. Atlantic won the puck out and had a chance to go ahead but good defending from Wayne McNamara cut out the chance and from his clearance substitute Keith Mulally got on the ball and put H&MV Engineering back in front. Atlantic had one last chance and a great score from his own half by Sean O'Connor sent the game to extra time with the score H&MV Engineering 0-13 Atlantic Aviation 0-13.
H&MV Engineering went back in front on 63 minutes with a good score from Paul Ryan. Paul Plower scored a fine point from distance on 68 minutes to level the game again. Right on half time Morris scored from a free to give H&MV a one point lead with 10 minutes of extra time left. Atlantic had a great chance to go in front on 71 minutes but a shot from Cahill for a goal narrowly missed the target. Morris made it a 2 point game with a point from a free on 76 minutes. A great score from center field by Dillon Quirke left 3 points between the sides with 3 minutes left. Alan Mulready pulled a point back for Atlantic with 2 minutes left. Another score from Morris on 79 minutes and the final score of the game from Paul Ryan was enough to send H&MV Engineering through to a final meeting with Kerry Group from Cork on Thursday in UL at 8pm.
