Thank you to everyone who participated in the Bridget Loughnane Tournament which took place on Saturday morning in O’Garney Park. Thank you to Wolfe Tones for coming in such large numbers and for holding the inaugural event last year to remember Bridget and her connections with both Shannon and Sixmilebridge Clubs.
The large turnout was a testament to what a great lady Bridget was and also for her family and all their contributions that they continue to give to both the hurling and camogie club.
After Wolfe Tones successful event last year, we had to make sure to equal that. We saw 160 children from Sixmilebridge and Shannon take to the field as part of the monster blitz. There were 15 different pitches with girls from u6 u8 and u10 and the u5 boys making their debut where all teams performed superbly. Thank you to everyone that played their part in making it such a special morning, coaches, parents, all the organisers, helpers with tea coffees, tidy up there is just too many to mention that the saying “ many hands make light work” was never more in evidence than on Saturday morning. Thanks to Centra and Crowes shop who provided disposable cups for teas and coffees.
The parents baked and bought amazing contributions of treats. The number of goodies that were delivered, we were running out of tables to put things on. It was much appreciated by the visiting teams and O’Halloran and Loughnane families. The ice-cream van was a big hit with over 200 ice-creams and slushies given out on the day. Thank you to the Camogie club for arranging the ice-cream truck.
The plaque presented last year by Wolfe Tones to SMB was passed back to Barry and Bridget's kids Harry, Neila and Aaron. Aaron and Neila both took part with their U5 and u8 teams and Harry lines out for the Bridge u14s.
See a snapshot of photos from the morning and even some drone footage.
