The Dillon Quirke foundation was set up in honour of the late Dillon Quirke who died tragically of SADS (Sudden Adult Death Syndrome) whilst lining out with his club Clonoulty-Rossmore in Semple Stadium.
SADS takes approx 100 lives in Ireland each year, and the aim of the foundation is to raise awareness of the condition, and save lives through providing a screening program for young GAA players. This screening is provided free of charge.
Recently, the Minor club collaborated with the foundation and screening was provided to 84 players over two days. Donations to the foundation, were made by those participating each day, along with a donation to from the club, contributing to a total figure raised of €1370.
The club is indebted to the Dillon Quirke Foundation, its staff and also their partner, Advanced Medical Services (AMS) who provide the screening.
The screening days were hosted by Sixmilebridge National School, and we would like to express our thanks to Gareth Heagney, Siobhan Crowe and Ollie Hayes for their support both in advance of, and on the days of the screening.
Finally, thanks to Debbie Reddan for kindly co-ordinating the initiative, along with our healthy club officer Brian O'Neill.
