Sixmilebridge 2-14 v 1-11 Clonlara
Division 5B League Round 2 @ O'Garney Park
The junior B's made it two from two in the league with a six point win over neighbours Clonlara this evening. In what was a hard fought match the home team were full value for their victory with the visitors getting their goal at the end.
At the interval the 'Bridge were 2-5 to 0-5 to the good as goals from Trevor Maxwell and Caimin Barrrett set them on their way. Sixmilebridge point scorers in this half were Martin Conlon (0-4fs) and Michael O'Halloran. Down the other end of the pitch some good defending from the backs in particular Galway native Ross O'Donnell kept Clonlara at bay as Mark McInerney, with a crucial block, and goalie Jake Dineen with a fine reflex save ensured no green flags were raised.
Sixmilebridge started the second half in similar style to the first with three unanswerd scores before the visitors responded in kind. It was tit for tat after this in the scoring front before the home side were dealt a blow with centre back Mark McInerney sent off on a second yellow but some great work rate in the final ten minutes saw them prevail. Clonlara finally got the goal they craved at the final whistle with Barry Moloney lashing a free to the net but it was too little too late. 'Bridge scorers in the second half were Martin Conlon (0-4; 0-2fs, 0-1 65), Michael O'Halloran (0-3; 0-1f), Caimin Barrett and Errol Tuohy (0-1 each).
