22nd May 2017
Venue: Newmarket
Full time score: Newmarket 1-10 Sixmilebridge 1-9
This league game between the neighbours took place in misty, wet conditions in Newmarket on Monday. The home crowd were first to register a score when they pointed in the opening minutes, but a minute later Slaine Carey rattled the Newmarket net having received a pass from Muireann Scanlon. Newmarket bounced back adding another four points. Morey put over her first of the day when she converted a free. Newmarket won one of their own minutes later at the opposite end. McGrath managed to make space for herself just in side the 65 to split the posts but again Newmarket returned the favour. They then went on to get a goal of their own. Just before half time Morey pointed another from a free. At half time the 'Blues' were ahead on a scoreline of 1-7 to 1-3. In the second the 'Bridge had a better start as Morey pointed two frees. Newmarket came back with a point before Carey and Olivia Phelan bounced back with one a piece. Things looked to be going their way for the'Bridge as Morey added a further two (1 45', 1f) but a free in front of the goal kept Newmarket in it. They added one final point to secure the game on their home soil.
