By the 6th Class Boys
On the 27th of May 2025 Kilmurry NS played Stonehall/Ballycar in the Division 4 Cumann na mBunscoil semi final in Sixmilebridge. From the first whistle to the last whistle both teams fought for a place in the final. The game started off with Stonehall/Ballycar taking an early lead but 3 points from Rhys and a goal from Lorcan put Kilmurry in a lead just before half time. Kilmurry held on and took a 4 point lead into the second half.
When the referee threw the ball in Stonehall/Ballycar scored 2 quick goals and 2 points to put them up by 4. With 15 minutes to go in the second half, Kilmurry came back well with 3 goals near the end of the game (the goals came from Rhys, Lorcan and Matthew). But with 30 seconds of normal time to go, a late goal put Stonehall/Ballycar put them up by 2. But a quick puck out by Michael put it down on top of Rhys and a breaking ball fell for him and Rhys hit the ball into the back of the net to give Kilmurry a one point lead with 20 seconds left in injury time. However with a last gasp 45, Stonehall/Ballycar brought the game to extra time.
Kilmurry started off extra time very well with the backs not letting any scores in for the first half of extra time while Kilmurry kept the scored board ticking through points from Lorcan, Fionn, Rhys and Mike hitting the back of the net. Throughout extra time Stonehall/Ballycar couldn’t keep up with Kilmurry with brilliant hooking and blocking from Donncha, Ewan and John and when the final whistle blew Kilmurry jumped with joy, with the final score line of 8-16 to 8-12.
Kilmurry look forward the the final next Thursday in Cusack Park against Mountshannon/Lakyle National School in the final, who they played in the group stages.
