A thrilling game unfolded this morning as familiar foes, Sixmilebridge and Ballyea, clashed in an anticipated showdown — a rematch of their U15 final just two years ago. The game more than lived up to expectations, delivering drama, skill, and no shortage of heart-stopping moments.

The pitch was in immaculate condition thanks to the efforts of Sean Stack and the dedicated field committee, providing the perfect stage for this contest.

Both sides exchanged early scores, setting the tone for what was to come. Evan Cleary was sharp from open play for Ballyea, while Rory Chaplin kept SMB in touch with a series of accurate placed balls.

The first real turning point came midway through the first half, when Ballyea struck with two quick-fire goals, giving them a commanding lead. However, SMB responded immediately with a superb team move finished off by Stephan Gavin after excellent work from Cathal Ryan brought them right back into the game.

At half-time, Ballyea led 2-08 to 1-08, but the match was still finely poised.

SMB came out with real intent after the break, levelling the game with a dominant spell and creating three clear goal chances that narrowly went amiss. Just as it seemed the Bridge might pull ahead, Ballyea struck again with a well-taken goal by the impressive Eoin O’Connor with just ten minutes remaining.

With two minutes left on the clock, SMB trailed by three points. But what followed was a display of grit, resilience, and class. Points from Rory Chaplin and Zak Phelan with both showing immense character which helped drag the Bridge over the line in a dramatic finish.

Final score: SMB 1-21, Ballyea 3-12.
