On a bright evening in O’Garney park, Sixmilebridge took on Doora-Barefield in this Féile quarter final. The home side were against the breeze in the first half, giving Doora-Barefield the early advantage which they took by scoring the opening two points of the game; one from play and one from a free. The ‘Bridge responded quickly with an excellent run from Conor Murphy in the 4th minute that looked to be a goal chance but was converted for a point at the last minute. This was followed by another point from a placed ball from Dara Fitzgerald but it would be the last score for the home side for another 13 minutes. Doora-Barefield began to take control and some great play from Michael Nash, Senan Crosbie and Seamus Og Enright allowed the away side to go 5 points ahead. Oisín Breen and Mark Sheedy defended well during this period but it was a Séamus O’Connell free from out the field in the 17th minute that brought the ‘Bridge back into the game as it landed in the back of the net, allowing the teams to go in 1-02 to 0-07 at half time.

The second half started with an excellent ball into the Sixmilebridge forward line, again from O’Connell, which looked to be an opportunity for the home side to start this half in the same way the last one finished. However, due to good defending from Doora-Barefield, the ball was cleared and resulted in an excellent score from Brendan Keane on the other end of the field. Another point for the away side followed 3 minutes later, but the ‘Bridge responded with two points from well taken frees by Fitzgerald. Another three goal chances arose for the ‘Bridge at the end of the half but Doora-Barefield continued to defend well and a great hook by Conor Cleland and a save by Evan Creaven stopped certain Sixmilebridge goals. The away side finished the half strong with a goal from Nash after a rebounded save by Mark Sheedy. The game finished up 1-10 to 1-04 to Doora-Barefield with the ‘Bridge unlucky to not have finished out the late goal chances. Great performances from Brian Hoey, Seamus Og Enright and Michael Nash for the away side helped secure the win, while Oisín Breen, Seamus O’Connell and Conor Murphy impressed for the ‘Bridge. Doora-Barefield now progress to the Féile semi-finals which take place Easter Monday.
