When the club made the brave decision to enter 3 teams in the U13 Championship the main aim was to have all teams competitive and lots of game time for all 52 players.
To date our U13A team reached the County Final while our 2 academy teams have qualified for the Championship semi finals and thankfully have avoided each other in the semi final draw so a few exciting weeks ahead.
U13A Team
The dust has now settled on the U13A county final and while we didn't get over the line on the day when we look back at the season the coaches will take great satisfaction in how the team has progressed from the first round. While the team were defeated in round 1 and 2 they went 6 games unbeaten to reach the final against Clooney Quin. The final was a game of 2 halves with the Bridge dominating the first to lead by 7 points at half time (3-07 to 2-03). But as is the case in all games goals change games and 2 goals in 60 seconds really swung this tie as Clooney/Quin ran out on a score line of 5-07 to 3-09.
Well done to all the boys who put in a huge effort all year - Thanks to John Reddin (InTouch) who looked after the boys with food and refreshments after the game. Best of luck to the boys who move to U12 and U14 teams now to prepare for those championships.
U13 Academy Saffrons
On Saturday the U13 Saffrons travelled to Cratloe to play the hosts in a play off for the last semi final spot. The 'Bridge were determined to avenge the earlier round game and set about their business from the off to lead by 2-06 to 0-04 at the short whistle. While the rain started to get heavier so did the Bridge boys determination and they ran our winners on a score of 4-10 to 2-05. The 'Bridge boys now go on to play Corofin/Ruan in the semi final.
U13 Academy Blues
This team had 2 games remaining to be played on consecutive days last week against Crusheen/Tubber and Clooney/Quin. On the Monday the Bridge were quickest out of the blocks and lead 4-03 to 0-01 at half time before running out winners on a score of 5-05 to 1-04.
Disappointingly for the boys Clooney/Quin failed to field a team on the Tuesday night and handed a walkover so it meant 1 less game for these boys in the group. The team are now qualified for the semi final of the Academy championship where they will face Newmarket next week.
